Steven Kelliher has been a practicing criminal defence lawyer and plaintiffs’ counsel since his call to the British Columbia Bar in 1979. He is a leading member of the Bar and conducts both trial and appellate advocacy, as well as a wide range of administrative tribunals. In addition, he has acted on various First Nations issues including residential school abuse claims, negotiations on disputes with government, employment matters, and he has also acted in the role of an advisor on social and economic development issues.

Steven has instructed at training sessions in Vancouver, Victoria, the Hague, Morocco and at Continuing Legal Education sessions on both the practice of International Criminal Law and the conduct of effective cross-examination. He has been involved with the International Criminal Bar from its inception and is currently one of its two Vice Presidents, as well as being on the list of counsel for the International Criminal Court. He is on the Board of Directors of Lawyers Rights Watch of Canada and the International Criminal Defence Attorneys Association.

In addition to his trial work, he has conducted numerous public enquiries as counsel for the Office of the Police Complaints Commission of British Columbia. He represented a member of the Rwandan municipal government as defence counsel in trial before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, which hears cases arising from the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. He is counsel for the deceased’s family in the Frank Paul Inquiry, arising from the death of an aboriginal man taken into the custody of the Vancouver Police Department. He is frequently asked by media to comment on legal aspects of news and public affairs issues.

Diane Turner practices in the area of personal injury law, providing legal assistance to those who have been sexually assaulted or injured in motor vehicle accidents. She has extensive experience conducting criminal prosecutions of sexual offenders. Her work with child and adult witnesses requires an understanding of the dynamics of abuse and enables a compassionate approach to her cases.

Diane was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1984 and obtained an LLM. at King’s College in London in 1986. In 1986, she worked as Provincial Crown Counsel in Vancouver/Victoria and, from 1990 to 1996, provided policy and legal advice at the Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General.

She served on the British Columbia Task Force on Family Violence and as Chair of the committee which developed the 1993 Attorney General Policy on Violence Against Women in Relationships. She sat on various committees at the Law Society of British Columbia between 1999 and 2004, including the Discipline Committee. She was also a member of the Judicial Council of the Provincial Court of British Columbia for four years and is on the list of counsel for the International Criminal Court. She is often approached to speak on issues related to violence against women and children and has been an advocate for victim serving agencies for many years.
